Freshman pitcher Hudson Randall (1-0) threw five scoreless innings in his first collegiate start, giving up three hits while striking out three. In relief, sophomore Nick Mardone allowed three earned runs in two innings of work with three Ks of his own; sophomore Greg Larson took over in the top of the eighth but only lasted a third of an inning as he was drilled for three more earned runs including a two-run homer by Knights outfielder Chris Duffy. Closing out the game was junior Kevin Chapman (S 1), who tossed 1.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts to preserve the win.

Junior second baseman Josh Adams led the way for the Gators’ offense going 2-5 with a run and two RBI. Junior third baseman Bryson Smith was 2-2 with two runs and two walks, while freshman catcher Mike Zunino was 2-3 with two runs and a walk.

UF had a season-high four doubles in the contest while senior OF Matt den Dekker extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Earlier in the week, den Dekker was named to the inaugural Primetime Performer Weekly Honor Roll as decided by CollegeBaseball360.com for his three (now four) consecutive multi-hit games.

In other news… Florida women’s basketball (14-14, 7-8 SEC) fell 71-60 to the No. 22 Vanderbilt Commodores (20-8, 9-6 SEC) on the road Wednesday at Memorial Gymnasium. Vanderbilt swept the season series.

In other news II… Gators freshman tennis player Bob Van Overbeek was named SEC Freshman of the Week. It is the second consecutive week a Florida player has won.

Central Florida Knights. No more Golden.

After an anemic 2006 which saw the Golden Knights go a mere 4–8, the team rebranded in 2007 in preparation for its move to its new on-campus venue, Bright House Networks Stadium. They dropped the “Golden” from their name, becoming the “UCF Knights”.
