Redshirt freshman wide receiver/defensive back Marqui Hawkins has decided to continue his college football career in another uniform, announcing Wednesday that he will transfer out of the Florida Gators football program.
Hawkins, whose decision was first reported by The Gainesville Sun’s Zach Abolverdi, did not play in 2013 after being recruited as a receiver and transitioned from wideout to safety during spring practice.
He was believed to be a transfer candidate entering the spring and has now followed through to that end with Florida deciding not to place any restrictions on potential transfer destinations.
Hawkins told the paper he holds no grudges against the Gators or the coaching staff, “learned a lot” at Florida and will attempt to play closer to his home of Columbus, GA.
“Marqui came to me and expressed an interest in getting a fresh start on the football field,” Gators coach Will Muschamp said in a statement released on the school’s website. “He was never in trouble off the field and was attentive in the classroom. We appreciate the way he carried himself and represented the program and wish him nothing but the best of luck in the future.”
Bummer, I thought he was going to be a good one in the secondary
“…“learned a lot” at Florida”
Heh, after Harrison’s comments yesterday I bet he did learn a lot.
Let’s see, how does it go? “Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.” AND if you have to see and listen always believe it could have been taken out of context.
How much does this hurt us with the 2 boys from his high school in the 15 class???
It does seem like an unusually high number of transfers in the last 3 years (and BTW they are not all ‘problem’ players)
Tyler Murphy will be the starting QB at Boston College under Addazio….
