Florida football recruiting: QB Jalen Kitna, son of Jon Kitna, commits to Gators

The Florida Gators’ strong recruiting at the quarterback position under head coach Dan Mullen continued Tuesday as the program reeled in a verbal commitment from three-star 2021 signal caller Jalen Kitna (Burleson, TX). The son of 17-year NFL veteran Jon Kitna made his decision public by sharing a graphic on social media.

Kitna (6-foot-4, 200 pounds) is a needed addition to Florida’s quarterback room and the second player at his position to join the Gators’ Class of 2021. Four-star Carlos Del Rio (Loganville, GA) is the second-highest rated player in UF’s class and rated the No. 11 quarterback in the country in the 247Sports Composite.

With redshirt senior Kyle Trask departing after the 2020 season and 2019 four-star signee Jalon Jones leaving the program without ever seeing the field, the Gators would’ve only had eventual redshirt junior Emory Jones, eventual second-year Anthony Richardson and freshman Del Rio as scholarship quarterbacks in the room come the start of the 2021 season.

Jalen Kitna is set to be coached by his father for his final year of high school football, and his joining Florida football will be quite similar to the Gators’ move to sign Trask, an unheralded prospect, while already having Feleipe Franks in the Class of 2016.

Florida’s 17-member upcoming recruiting class remains ranked No. 6 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings but is closing in on No. 5 USC. The Gators have the second-highest ranked class in the SEC behind No. 2 Tennessee, which has 24 commitments.
