When former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow decided to try his hand at professional baseball, most laughed. When he was called up from low Class A to high Class A despite a relatively unsuccessful start to the season, it was unanimously decided to be a marketing ploy. And it was probably just that.

But since Tebow’s promotion to the St. Lucie Mets, he has looked like a completely different player. In other words, he looks like he can actually play.

Tebow on Thursday smacked a walk-off solo home run on the very first pitch he saw to send the Mets to victory. He also extended his hitting streak to 11 games — dating back to July 2 — and now has three home runs and 12 RBI, compared to eight strikeouts, in 15 games with the club. Tebow is batting .340 since his promotion and has an OPS of .930, more than 200 points higher than he had with the Columbia Fireflies.
