2016 DB Jayvaughn Myers commits to Florida

Three-star 2016 defensive back Jayvaughn Myers (Dade City, FL) announced his verbal commitment to the Florida Gators on Tuesday.

“After a long process with my mom I’m very blessed to say that I have committed to the University of Florida,” he wrote on Twitter.

Myers, who was thought to be a Florida State lean last month, enjoyed his time at Florida during Friday Night Lights, the Gators’ top-notch recruiting event held every July. It was the second time he visited UF in as many weeks.

Gators defensive backs coach Kirk Callahan played a large role in Myers’ recruitment and celebrated the team’s achievement on Twitter – as did a handful of other coaches – with the signature #ChompChomp hashtag.

Myers (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) is also the brother of five-star wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers (Tampa, FL), an impressive in-state prospect who is considered the nation’s best wideout. Craig-Myers is believed to favor FSU after decommitting from Auburn but attended Florida’s FNL event and appears to have growing interest in the Gators.

The 19th member of Florida’s 2016 recruiting class, Myers is the fifth defensive back to make a verbal pledge to the Gators. He is the second-highest rated among those players, however, behind only four-star cornerback Chauncey Gardner (Cocoa, FL). Sixteen of UF’s 19 commitments (84.2 percent) are rated as three-star prospects.
