The Class of 2020 continues to grow in a major way for head coach Mike White as four-star guard Niels Lane (Roselle, NJ) has committed to the Florida Gators. He is the second big-time prospect to pledge to the class recently.

Lane (6-foot-5, 195 pounds), the No. 87 player in the nation per the 247Sports Composite, committed to Florida over UConn, Texas, Miami and Providence.

“I went to campus twice and both times I connected with Coach White and the rest of the staff and they were my first offer that started off the AAU season so they were the first school to really believe in my talents and believe in what I can do,” Lane told Rivals.com, which first reported his commitment.  “After I got the Florida offer, I received a flurry of other offers so they saw what I could do and really noticed me and I really noticed that.”

Lane is the second New Jersey native to commit to the Gators in as many seasons as White hauled in five-star G Scottie Lewis as part of the Class of 2019. Lane should bring a lot of toughness and athleticism to Florida’s backcourt.

It has become clear that White is targeting length and athleticism in his recruiting; as such, Lane looks like he will fall right into place with the program.

“I think that I fit really well with their culture and especially on the floor,” he told Rivals. “Coach White wants me to play all three guard positions, which I think I am very capable of [doing].”

Florida now has three 2020 commits as Lane joins four-star forward Samson Ruzhentsev (Chattanooga, TN) and three-star F Osayi Osifo (Cocoa, FL), the No. 2-ranked junior college transfer in the nation. The Gators’ class is now ranked 14th nationally and second in the SEC behind Kentucky, which has a pair of five-star commitments.
