1 » Former Florida Gators student-athlete Ryan Lochte is one of the most decorated swimmers in school history. A star in college, Lochte moved on to win three gold, one silver and two bronze medals combined in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. Looking to return the 2012 Games in London, Lochte is not the only member of his family with aquatic tendencies. His brother Devon, 19, is a redshirt freshman at Florida and plans to compete in mid-distance free style and butterfly this season. “[Devon] has got some real good physical tools and a nice feel for the water,” said Gators swimming coach Gregg Troy. While Devon not nearly as good as his older brother, he is getting there. “If he’s 110 percent devoted and dedicated and willing to push his body, I think he’s going to be better than me,” Ryan said. In truth, all that Devon cares about is getting to the Olympics and achieving his secret lifelong goal. “We never really told anyone, but we want to be in the Olympics on the same relay team,” Devon said.

The Gators’ next match is Friday, Oct. 23, against the Arkansas Razorbacks (10-11, 4-6 SEC) at 7 p.m. It will air live on Sun Sports.

3 » The No. 11 Gators soccer team (11-4-2, 5-1-2 SEC) also played in a pair of games over the weekend, tying the Tennessee Volunteers (7-5-3, 3-2-2 SEC) 2-2 in two overtimes on Friday evening at the Regal Soccer Stadium and defeating the No. 23 Georgia Bulldogs (12-3-1, 5-3 SEC) 1-0 on Sunday at the UGA Soccer Stadium. In Friday’s game, sophomore Tahnai Annis got the tying Florida goal in the 86th minute; she also scored the only goal Sunday, a header off of sophomore Lindsay Thompson’s cross at 85. The soccer team’s next match is at home on Thursday, Oct. 22, against the No. 16 LSU Tigers (10-3-3, 6-1-1 SEC) at 7 p.m. Thursday is Florida’s first cancer awareness match with the Gators wearing pink uniforms.

4 » The No. 9 Florida women’s cross country team came in second place at the White Race of the Pre-NCAA Invitational on Saturday, finishing ahead of nine nationally ranked teams. The Gators finished second only to the No. 1 Washington Huskies. The women’s second-place finish was the highest at the Pre-National meet in program history. It was Florida’s first 6K race of the season.
