A rough couple of weeks for the No. 10 Florida Gators was met with a bunch of big news on Monday as the team not only announced went back to the past with uniforms for its upcoming game but was also surprised with some great news for the future. Four star linebacker Jeremiah Williams (Birmingham, AL) committed to the Gators on Monday, adding a much-needed piece for the team’s Class of 2021.

“15000% COMMITTED,” Williams tweeted along with a commitment video that you can find later in this story.

Williams (6-foot-3, 224 pounds) committed to Florida over a stacked lists of finalists including Auburn, Georgia and Oklahoma. Nearby Alabama was not included in that grouping, though the Gators did battle to snag Williams from the Tigers.

Though he’s listed as a defensive end, Williams will likely be a Buck pass rusher for Florida, playing both on the line and standing up at linebacker.

His commitment moves the Gators up three spots to No. 8 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings. Florida was ranked No. 6 in August at the time of its last commitment but has gone the better part of two months without a verbal pledge while many of its competitors added multiple pieces to their classes.

UF has the fourth-ranked class in the SEC at this time behind Alabama, LSU and Georgia. Williams joins with four-star defensive end Tyreak Sapp (Fort Lauderdale, FL) as a pair of top-tier rushers in the class. The Gators also have a commitment from four-star LB Diwun Black, the top-ranked JUCO prospect in the nation.

Williams is the Gators’ 23rd underclassman-to-be (one five-star, 12 four-stars, 10 three-stars) to commit to the program for 2021. Florida is also counting a pair of former commitments now in junior college — Black and guard Deyavie Hammond — as part of its class, giving UF 24 overall for this cycle.
