Florida recruiting: Texas WR Jordan Pouncey, four-star CB Ethan Pouncey commit to Gators

Another set of Pouncey brothers will be taking up residence inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, only this time they are playmakers … and not twins. Former Texas wide receiver Jordan Pouncey and his brother, four-star cornerback Ethan Pouncey, committed to join the Florida Gators on Sunday night.

Jordan and Ethan (Winter Park, FL) are cousins to Maurkice and Mike Pouncey, former Gators star centers and current NFL Pro Bowlers.

Jordan Pouncey, a former three-star recruit in the Class of 2017, caught two passes for 19 yards this season and entered the transfer portal last month. He played in five games for the Longhorns up until that point, counting the 2019 season against his eligibility. After taking a redshirt in 2017, he saw action in seven games during 2018 but largely played special teams over the last two seasons. Unless he achieves a waiver, he will have to sit out the 2020 season, giving him one year of eligibility remaining in 2021.

Ethan Pouncey is ranked 151st nationally, per the 247Sports Composite, and committed to join Gators’ Class of 2020 one day after both he and his brother visited for the Florida vs. Florida State game. Pouncey decommitted from Texas on Oct. 31, the same day his brother announced his decision to transfer.

Passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales led Jordan’s recruitment, while defensive backs coach Torrian Gray concentrated on locking up Ethan.

Jordan Pouncey famously said during his recruitment in 2016 that he did not trust the Florida coaching staff, then helmed by Jim McElwain. The fact that Gonzales and head coach Dan Mullen — who were on the Gators staff with his cousins — are now in charge of the program obviously led to a change of heart.
