1 » After a huge upset win over the No. 17 Tennessee Volunteers last Tuesday, the Florida Gators looked to be squarely in the 2010 NCAA Tournament. A few days later, the Gators found themselves back on the bubble falling to the Georgia Bulldogs on the road. ESPN’s Mark Schlabach looks at what happened and what the team needs to do from this point forward.

2 » Four former Florida golfers were at the top of the leaderboard going into the final round of the PGA‘s Waste Management Phoenix Open on Sunday. Mark Calcavecchia, Matt Every, Camilo Villegas and Chris Couch were all in the hunt for the tournament title, but each wound up falling short in the end. Couch finished T4 (-13), Villegas was T8 (-11) with Every and Calcavecchia shot a final-day 74 to fall to T43 (-7).

Four more BITS on Brantley, Brown, tennis and baseball…after the break!

3 » OGGOA has covered some of what new Gators starting quarterback John Brantley said at his press outing last week. Two other topics he covered were the play of freshman three-star QB Trey Burton and the return of junior guard Mike Pouncey. “[Burton’s] been working hard,” Brantley said. “We work out together every day. He’s doing great. He’s working his butt off. I’m very impressed with him.” On Pouncey returning: “It’s a great thing that he came back. We’re going to have such a veteran line coming back. I feel very comfortable sitting behind those five [Pouncey, Carl Johnson, Xavier Nixon, Marcus Gilbert and James Wilson].”

4 » Four-star running back commitment Mack Brown (Lithonia, GA), who has been dealing with hamstring injuries his entire high school career, told Edward Aschoff of The Gainesville Sun that his recovery is going well and that he ran a 4.4 in his first 40-yard dash since he began taking time off. “Hopefully I get some playing time,” Brown said. “I’m a baller. If I get a chance, I’m gonna turn Gainesville out.”

5 » One previously unmentioned result from Sunday had the No. 9 Florida women’s tennis team (9-2) sweeping the defending National Champion No. 6 Duke Blue Devils 7-0 Sunday at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex. The No. 3-ranked doubles pairing of senior Marrit Boonstra and freshman Allie Will took down Duke’s duo 8-3 in only 50 minutes. No. 10 Will, No. 80 Boonstra and No. 22 freshman Lauren Embree would go on to win their singles matches as well.

6 » Gators right-handed pitcher Hudson Randal (1-0) was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after throwing five scoreless innings last Wednesday against the Central Florida Knights in his first-ever start for Florida.

I think we can conclude that Mack Brown has swagger

  2. ReptilesRule says:

Mack seems to have a little history of hamstring problems. Personally, I hope they can redshirt him so he can really be ready when he gets his chance. Will be interesting to see how Mike Gillislee has progressed here in a couple of weeks when spring ball begins.
