Eight former Florida Gators are participating in the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine (National Invitational Camp) at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis Feb. 28 to March 6.

The event consists of more than 300 players being put through a series of drills, tests and interviews while more than 600 NFL personnel in attendance (including coaching staffs, executives, player personnel and medical staffs) look on and evaluate each of them. It amounts to a major job interview for these athletes to participate in ahead of the 2017 NFL Draft on April 27-29.

Day four

Offensive tackle David Sharpe* (Group 2, OL40)
Height: 6’6″ | Weight: 343 lbs.
Arm length: 35 3/8″ | Hand size: 10″

Bench press: 19 reps of 225 lbs.
Tied for seventh fewest reps among offensive linemen

40-yard dash: 5.44 seconds
Bottom third among offensive linemen in this drill

3-cone drill: 7.87 seconds | 20-yard shuttle: 4.78 seconds
Top third among offensive linemen in these drills

Vertical jump: 20.5 inches | Broad jump: 97.0 inches
Second-worst offensive lineman in vertical and seventh-worst in broad

Notes: Sharpe’s measureables impressed scouts immediately and will absolutely get him drafted, but it will be his athleticism that determines how high he will go next month. Film has indicated that Sharpe operates as stiff at the line, which is certainly a weakness, as are his slow feet and reach. Where he stands out is from a size, length and overall mass perspective. His hands are strong, and his straight-line blocking is consistent. Sharpe will likely play guard at the next level with some flexibility to move outside as needed during a game. The fact that he started 26 of his last 27 games played will work in his favor as well.

Furthermore, according to NFL Network‘s Daniel Jeremiah, Sharpe is legally blind in his right eye, which explained why he was late off the snap playing left tackle in college.
