Former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow has been clowned left and right since retiring from football and deciding to give baseball — a sport he had not played since high school — a try.

And some of that clowning has been legitimate as Tebow has at times looked awful playing baseball, though that is to be expected — particularly when going against some of the best pitchers in the game.

No one was laughing on Thursday night, though, as Tebow hit an opposite-field two-run homer in his very first minor league at bat. Tebow, who is starting in left field, made his debut with the Columbia Fireflies of the South Atlantic League, a New York Mets affiliate.

Though Tebow is now officially in the minor league system, he will return to the SEC Network this fall for his broadcasting responsibilities.
