The Florida Gators on Wednesday added an important commitment when junior college running back Mark Thompson (Wyncote, PA), a four-star prospect, agreed to join the program in 2016.

Thompson (6-foot-2, 230 pounds) was offered by the Gators in late April and chose Florida over Arizona State, Iowa and Louisville. He was previously being recruited by head coach Jim McElwain and running backs coach Tim Skipper when the duo was at Colorado State.

During his freshman campaign at Dodge City Community College, Thompson gained 567 yards on 95 touches, scoring eight rushing touchdowns over the course of the season. The long-time Gators fan will remain with the program for one more season before moving over to UF for spring practice in 2016.

Florida’s depth chart at that time will likely include Adam Lane, Jordan Scarlett and Jordan Cronkrite as Kelvin Taylor is expected to turn pro after his junior campaign.

247Sports’ Luke Stampini and Rivals’ Blake Alderman were the first two to report Thompson’s decision.

Hey Adam maybe I missed it but the likely RB depth chart for 2016 does not include D’Anfernee McGriff. Is that because he is JUCO bound and that is why he was not included?

People must see something in Taylor that I haven’t yet eyed.

    I don’t get it.

Kid is big bruising running back. Always good to a have a few of those on the roster.
