Florida Gators win 2014-15 SEC All-Sports Award

Despite struggling in its two largest money-generating sports, the Florida Gators and their six Southeastern Conference titles once again proved that they were the most dominant athletics program in the league during the 2014-15 as they were named recipients of the overall SEC All-Sports Award for the ninth consecutive season and 23rd time in the last 24 campaigns.

Though the Gators won the overall award, they ended a six-season streak of sweeping the three titles, which also include individual men’s and women’s crowns. In fact, Florida achieved the overall title without leading either of the gender categories.

Florida has now won 25 overall titles (nine straight), 21 women’s titles and 18 men’s titles. The Gators are also the only program to sweep all three categories in a single season, doing so 14 times overall, seven times in the last nine years and six times in a row (2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14).

All 16 of Florida’s sports (nine women’s, seven men’s) were counted with cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field combined into one unit per gender. (The lacrosse program competes in the Big East.)

The Gators won six SEC titles over this period – volleyball, men’s indoor track & field, men’s swimming & diving, women’s tennis, softball, men’s outdoor track and field –

Florida still leads the SEC with 224 all-time team titles.

The 2014-15 edition of the awards were presented by GateHouse Media. Prior iterations were awarded by league itself (1973-74 to 1993-94), The New York Times Regional Newspaper Group (1994-95 to 2010-11) and Halifax Media Group (2011-12 to 2013-14).
