Defensive lineman Joey Ivie (Dade City, FL), ranked as a four-star defensive end by Rivals and three-star defensive tackle by ESPN, committed to the Florida Gators on Saturday and became the 17th member of the team’s 2013 recruiting class.

At 6’4” and 270 lbs., Ivie can play both defensive line positions and proved as much while participating in a Gators football camp in Gainesville, FL on Saturday.

Though he never officially announced which programs led for his services, Ivie chose Florida over a long list of offers from schools like Florida State, Miami and Tennessee.

He is just the second defensive lineman to join the Gators’ 2013 class, the other being four-star DT Caleb Brantley (Crescent City, FL), but is the ninth commitment on the defensive side of the ball and 13th from the state of Florida.

Ivie’s commitment was first reported by ESPN.

I love that we’re getting so many signees but I’m getting a bit nervous we’ve filled so many slots on our class before seeing anyone play their senior season.

    That being said…. Go Gators!!

    • Think this is the first time I’ve seen you comment here. Welcome.

Muschamp and the staff has a plan as far as how many open scholarships they want to keep towards the end.

After this years NSD debacle, its probably the right strategy. Tracey Howard was a silent commit after his visit 2 weeks before signing day and L. Williams and JHC were locks two days before. I like the Texas approach – have your class in place by Thanksgiving. Then leave one or two spots available for some of the bigger fish going into January.

Pardon my cynicism, but have we EVER had a white boy on the end that made a difference? Didn’t we go through this with Lemmings and Trattou? Nothing against my fellow crackas, but they just don’t have the athleticism or speed to be effective at that spot.
