FOUR BITS: Jenkins takes blame; Munroe still out; Patterson speaks on UF; Grant on Donovan

1 » Florida Gators sophomore cornerback Janoris Jenkins knows he played terrible Saturday against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Yes, he let wide receiver Greg Childs amass 135 yards on him including a 75-yard touchdown. But that was also the worst game he’s had his entire Florida career, and he is confident that he will be able to rebound. “[Janoris] told me that was one of the worst games he ever had in his life,” running mate Joe Haden said. “I told him, ‘Don’t worry about it.’” Jenkins had 39 tackles and three interceptions his freshman season and has already followed that up with 37 tackles and two more receptions so far in 2009. “[Janoris] knows it’s a whole new week, and you can expect a real good game out of him,” Haden said.

2 » Fifth-year senior safety Dorian Munroe, after sitting out the entire 2008 season with a torn ACL, was expected to return to the Gators two weeks ago when the team visited Baton Rouge, LA, to take on the LSU Tigers. Unfortunately, Munroe injured his meniscus during the preseason and has been forced to miss additional time. Joseph Goodman of the Miami Herald inquired about Munroe’s status and was told by Haden that he was “walking around” at practice on Tuesday. Goodman believes Munroe may be able to resume playing against the Georgia Bulldogs in two weeks.

3 » Kentucky Wildcats junior power forward Patrick Patterson was a five-star recruit coming out of high school who most believed would end up committing to Florida. Instead, partly because head coach Billy Donovan left the team for the NBA’s Orlando Magic, Patterson decided to head to Lexington, KY, instead. Patterson spoke about this Thursday morning during SEC Media Days. “That played a factor,” Patterson said. “Coach Donovan, he’s a great guy. I loved Florida. I loved the teammates, especially the campus and the girls down there.” Patterson would have fit in perfectly when Marreese Speights declared for the NBA Draft and was picked by the Philadelphia 76ers.

4 » New Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Anthony Grant was in line to replace Donovan at Florida when he briefly left for the NBA. Instead of that happening, Donovan stayed and Grant remained with Virginia Commonwealth. A year later, Grant has been hired by Alabama and makes his debut in the SEC this season. Grant spoke about Donovan and the Gators during the media day. “I think for any program to be successful there has to be continuity throughout the program, be it head coaches, assistants, administration,” Grant said. “And when you look at the number of changes Billy has had the last two years with players, coaches – that’s a lot to deal with to sustain the level of success that you want to. Sometimes you get spoiled when you are not in the trenches every day. I think sometimes it’s important for people to keep some perspective.”

Maybe Jenkins will be benched for his poor performance. Urban says you have to earn your playing time on the field! That’s the excuse they have always used vs Moody….but wait, Tebow & James have fumbled multiple times without missing ANY PT. HUMMMMMMM! How does that work?
