The Florida Gators (7-1, 4-1 SEC) and Georgia Bulldogs (6-1, 3-1 SEC) entered their bye weeks leading the SEC East and in the top 10 of the college football rankings, and their national standing only improved on Sunday as two key teams fell on Saturday in Week 9. With the annual World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party looming, the Gators and Bulldogs time to rest and rehabilitate is over.

Ahead of its biggest game of the season, Florida moved up one spot in the AP Top 25 and two in the Coaches Poll to become the unanimous No. 6 team in the nation. Not only did Oklahoma’s loss help UF ascend, Notre Dame (ranked ahead in the Coaches Poll last week) fell at Michigan. Georgia is now ranked No. 8 in the AP Top 25 and No. 7 in the Coaches Poll with Oregon the only difference.

That makes the tilt between the Gators and Bulldogs the second straight with both teams ranked in the top 10 and second in the history of the rivalry with both ranked among the top eight teams in the nation (2008).

LSU took over the No. 1 spot in the AP Top 25 — it is the third team to hold it this season — while Alabama held on to the No. 1 spot it took over four weeks ago in the Coaches Poll. Ohio State, Clemson and Penn State round out the top five in both college football rankings.
