The on-field product may have been trash for the No. 11 Florida Gators on Saturday afternoon in a 38-17 loss to the Missouri Tigers, but the team did get a bit of good news for its future. Two four-star prospects committed to Florida over the course of the day, one during the game and another shortly after the Gators lost on homecoming.

The first pledge came from 2021 athlete Kamar Wilcoxson (Stone Mountain, GA), who projects as a defensive back at the next level. Though he does not have a 247Sports Composite ranking, the recruiting service lists him as the No. 91 overall player in his class at this time.

“Growing up this school was always a top school of mine and when I stepped foot on campus, I just knew it was for me,” said Wilcoxson on Twitter. “I can’t wait to see what my future holds for me and my family. Without further [adieu], I would like ot announce that I’m committed to the University of Florida.”

A couple hours later, 2020 defensive lineman Gervon Dexter (Lake Wales, FL) made his intentions known for Florida. Dexter is similarly without a composite ranking, but he checks in 80th overall for his class and as the 13th-best player in the state.

“I would like to announce that I will be verbally committing to the University of Florida,” Dexter wrote on Twitter, “to pursue my dreams, academic and athletic career.”

Neither player will help the Gators immediately next season, but it is nevertheless good for Florida to have some recruiting momentum despite Saturday’s result. Whether that bodes well for the Class of 2019, many of which will sign in about five weeks, remains to be seen.
