The Florida Gators added their second top-300 commitment in five days as the program continues to attempt to bounce back from a string of unfortunate recruiting developments. Four-star defensive lineman Gavin Hill (Gainesville, FL) announced Saturday that he has decided to continue his career in his hometown.
“Ever since I can remember, [my mom and I] watched football together and I dreamed of playing in college wearing the colors of my home team,” Hill wrote. “With that being said and in honor of my late grandfather and my late grandmother I am excited to announce my commitment to the University of Florida…Go Gators!!”
At 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds, Hill was long expected to commit to the Gators despite holding offers from every major Florida school as well as Auburn. He is ranked as the No. 259 overall player in the 247Sports Composite and primarily plays defensive end.
Hill’s commitment boosts Florida to No. 34 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings. The Gators have moved up 16 spots by adding three pledges in the last week with four-star EDGE Isaiah Nixon (St. Petersburg, FL) and three-star Tommy Kinsler (Ocala, FL) as the other two newest verbal commitments.
At Buchholz, Hill is a teammate and classmate of three-star athlete Creed Whittemore (Gainesville, FL), who is also committed to the program. In fact, seven of Florida’s eight 2023 commitments are from the Sunshine State with three now from Alachua County alone.
