The basketball version of ESPN’s “College GameDay” made a seventh visit to Gainesville, Florida, for what was expected to be a barn-burner between the No. 7 Florida Gators and No. 20 Arkansas Razorbacks. Instead, it was simply another coronation for the reigning national champions, which eviscerated the visitors 111-77 to clinch at least a share of the regular-season SEC title for the first time since 2014.

The Gators (23-6, 14-2 SEC) overwhelmed the Hogs through the majority of the opening half and built their lead to an insurmountable level in the latter stanza as a season-high seven players scored in double figures and junior center Rueben Chinyelu moved to No. 4 on Florida’s all-time list for most defensive rebounds in a single season.

UF’s 111 points were their most in a game this season, and the program has now scored 90+ points in six straight games against ranked opponents, only the third team to do so in the history of the AP Top 25 and first since 1990. Florida now has the second-longest winning streak against ranked opponents in Division I history with six consecutive wins.

The Gators picked up their largest win over a ranked team in program history (34 points), and Florida head coach Todd Golden’s margin over Arkansas head coach John Calipari marked the biggest loss of the latter’s entire career.

Let’s take a look at what went down Saturday night in primetime with some Fastbreak Takeaways.

It was over when … junior guard Urban Klavžar drained a 3-pointer with 14:23 remaining, extending Florida’s already-massive advantage to 30 points. The Gators outscored the Razorbacks 17-6 to open the second half, putting the contest away before Arkansas even had an opportunity to try and claw its way back. UF created its third seven-point possession of the season and ultimately led by a game-high 37 points with 2:29 to play after seven straight points by junior forward Alex Condon.

First half focus: Florida used a 9-2 stretch to turn an early deficit into a lead as the frontcourt scored the team’s first 13 points. The visitors responded with an 8-0 run to retake the advantage, but UF immediately answered with a 16-2 stretch boosted by a pair of 3-pointers from Klavžar. The Gators continued their dominance, outscoring the Razorbacks 40-11 over an 11-minute stretch, opening a half-high 24-point lead. Florida scored six straight baskets around the rim before sophomore G Isaiaih Brown went on a personal 8-0 run with a pair of triples. Six players had scored 8+ points entering the break.

Exceptional efforts: Plenty of Gators flashed Saturday night, but Klavžar was the game changer, turning an otherwise strong win into a dominant performance. He made his first four attempts from downtown and finished with 14 points, but again, he was hardly alone. Chinyelu bounced back from a pair of frustrating outings with a double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds, his 10th in SEC play and 17th of the season (one away from the program record). He went 6 of 6 from the free-throw line, too.

Condon (17 points) and junior F Thomas Haugh (game-high 22 points) wound up as the leading scorers, continuing their tremendous play; they combined for 11 boards and four assists. Brown played in lockstep with Klavžar as a clutch performer, finishing with 11 points, hitting both attempts from downtown and going 4 of 5 from the field with four rebounds. Guards sophomore Boogie Fland and Xaiivan Lee combined for 27 points, nine assists and six rebounds, putting an astounding seven players in double figures for the first time this season.

Odds & ends: Florida improved to 29-15 all-time against Arkansas, 16-3 at home and 3-1 under Golden … Saturday marked the seventh time the Gators hosted ESPN’s “College GameDay,” placing UF among the five most frequent hosts in the show’s basketball history … Florida is 9-2 all-time, 6-1 at home and 5-1 against Calipari when performing at the site of “College GameDay” … Florida improved to 20-1 when leading at halftime, 23-1 when leading with 5 minutes left, 22-4 when outrebounding an opponent, 18-1 when shooting better than 45% from the field, 21-0 when outshooting an opponent, 4-0 when shooting 40% or better from 3-point range, 12-1 when outshooting an opponent from 3-point range, 16-2 when attempting more free throws, 16-2 when winning the bench scoring battle, 20-2 when 4+ players score in double figures and 14-0 when 5+ players score in double figures

What it means: The Gators proved Saturday night that they not only belong in the No. 1 seed conversation, they should be considered a shoo-in for one of those four spots, barring a significant fall off. Three of Florida’s six losses are to the top six teams in the nation (including No. 1 and No. 2) — all in nonconference play, away from home by a combined 11 points — and it has now won nine straight games in SEC play, six of them by 19+ points. UF has also defeated six consecutive ranked opponents.

The Gators were shooting 58% from downtown at one point in the second half, ultimately settling at 42.1% for the game after jacking up a couple of unnecessary late treys that did not fall. That means three of Florida’s four best performances from beyond the arc have come in the last three games — all four in the last 30 days — correcting what had been a season-long weakness for the program.

This as the Gators still boast the nation’s most dominant frontcourt. Florida was +20 in rebounding (51-31) and +12 in paint scoring (56-44) on Saturday night. A scary proposition has been created for the rest of the country with just a couple of weeks to go until the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

What’s next? Florida will stay at home as the final week of the regular season begins, as it hosts Mississippi State on Tuesday, March 3. The game will tip off at 8 p.m. ET and air live nationally on SEC Network. If the Gators win, they will clinch the outright SEC regular-season championship rather than a share of the crown. The Bullogs are 13-16 this season.
