Todd Golden signs extension with Florida Gators, becoming highest-paid coach in program history

Though the Florida Gators did not soar to the same heights last season, Todd Golden once again proved himself as one of the top head basketball coaches in the sport through an up-and-down campaign. His performance was awarded this week with a six-year contract extension that not only retains him as the program leader but also makes him the highest-paid coach in program history.

Golden, 41, will remain one of the nation’s highest-paid coaches, receiving a salary bump up to an average salary of $8.25 million per season, according to the Orlando Sentinel, which reports that he will earn $7.5 million for the 2026-27 campaign.

Signing his third extension in as many seasons, Golden is now inked to Florida through the 2031-32 campaign on a six-year, $49.5 million contract. He will earn more year to year than head football coach Jon Sumrall, who is set to earn $7.45 million in 2026, per contract details released by the University of Florida.
