WHAT TO WATCH
No. 1 Alabama (7-0, 4-0 SEC) vs. Tennessee (4-3, 1-2 SEC)
3:30 p.m. – CBS
Alabama’s dominance on the “Third Saturday in October” nearly rivals Florida’s exceptional streak against Tennessee as the Crimson Tide have rattled off six-straight wins against the Volunteers dating back to 2007. Despite winning two of the three games prior (UA’s victory in 2005 was vacated), UT has not scored more than 17 points against their cross-division rivals since 2003. Bama, of course, is trying to stay undefeated.
No. 5 Missouri (7-0, 3-0 SEC) vs. No. 21 South Carolina (5-2, 3-2 SEC)
7:00 p.m. – ESPN2
The Tigers appear to be the class of the SEC East, but the Gamecocks will try to make a stand and knock the new(er) kid on the block down a peg on Saturday. A victory by Missouri would go a long way to clinching a berth in the SEC Championship, a first for Mizzou in just its second year in the league. A South Carolina triumph puts Steve Spurrier’s team squarely in the picture with just Mississippi State and Florida remaining on its conference schedule.
No. 3 Oregon (7-0, 4-0 Pac-12) vs. No. 12 UCLA (5-1, 2-1 Pac-12)
7:00 p.m. – ESPN
Can Heisman Trophy candidate Marcus Mariota be contained? Will Oregon’s defense continue to stand strong against the team’s toughest competition yet this season? The Ducks are averaging a whopping 57.6 points per game while allowing just 17.3…and that’s after giving up a season-high 38 last week to Washington State. UCLA is reeling from a 24-10 loss to Stanford, but the Bruins could get some much-needed mojo back by knocking Oregon off its Pac-12 pedestal.
No. 6 Stanford (6-1, 4-1 Pac-12) at No. 25 Oregon State (6-1, 4-0 Pac-12)
10:30 p.m. – ESPN
One of only four games on Saturday’s schedule with a pair of top-25 opponents squaring off (the fourth is listed on the next page), the Cardinal will face a tough Beavers team that leads the nation in passing and has rallied in a major way after surprisingly dropping its season opener to Eastern Washington (the third FCS team ever to beat a ranked FBS program). Both Stanford (upset by Utah) and Oregon State (only ranked by the BCS – neither of the human polls) have a lot to play for this week…especially the Cardinal, which have to face Oregon next on Nov. 7.
