Florida football recruiting: Four-star WR Xzavier Henderson commits to Gators

In a move that was not expected one month ago but seemed to turn on a dime over the last week, four-star wide receiver Xzavier Henderson (Miami, FL) committed to the Florida Gators on Saturday during the 2020 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The younger brother of cornerback C.J. Henderson has been one of the Gators’ top targets this cycle.

Xzavier Henderson (6-foot-4, 180 pounds) received a National Letter of Intent from the Gators during the early signing period but decided to hold his announcement until the scheduled All-American game. It was long believed that he would ultimately choose Clemson over Florida, but the Gators’ late push appears to have done the trick.

The No. 59 overall player in the Class of 2020, Henderson becomes Florida’s second-highest rated singee this cycle behind four-star defensive tackle Gervon Dexter (Lake Wales, FL). He is also the highest-rated offensive playmaker to commit to the program out of high school since WR Tyrie Cleveland in 2016.

The addition of Henderson pushes the Gators’ incoming class up one spot ahead of Auburn to No. 7 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings. National Signing Day is set for Wednesday, Feb. 5.

As for whether he will contribute immediately in 2020, the prospects of that are certainly high. Though Florida does have a talented receiver room, opportunity has been created by the departures of four of the team’s top six pass catchers. Considering head coach Dan Mullen likes to spread the ball around, Henderson has an opportunity to make an impact from Day 1.
