TWO BITS: Jeffcoat drops UF, license plates

1 » A consensus top-five recruit in the country, five-star defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat (Plano, TX), was planning to visit the Florida Gators this weekend. Instead, Jeffcoat has canceled his trip and is removing Florida from his list of finalists. Chris Hays of the Orlando Sentinel speculates (correctly) that Jeffcoat’s decision likely comes on the heels of fellow five-star DE Ronald Powell (Moreno Valley, CA) committing to the Gators at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Florida remains in the running for top five-star recruits like offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson (St. Paul, MN) and linebacker Jordan Hicks (West Chester, OH), among others.

2 » Though sales of specialty license plates in the state of Florida “were down for the first time in years” on the whole, the University of Florida’s plate remained the state’s top seller. In 2009, UF sold 120,858 license plates, 7,296 more than just one year ago. The Gators accounted for 7.4 percent of total sales even though there are 112 other designs for residents to choose from.

Figured this was going to happen. No real biggy as I think Powell is better than Jeffcoat anyhow. Henderson and Hicks would put this class out of this world though. I think we will land one of the two at best but I’m still skeptical with those odd. Maybe a 1/4 chance is more realistic.

  2. ReptilesRule says:

What we really need is 1) A big reciever 2) An O lineman 3) linebacker in that order. Then we’re pretty well finished unless we pick up a QB…

  3. Denver Gator says:

I agree Mr2Bits, with Powell, Easley and Trail it makes sense for him to go elsewhere for playing time. It would be great to land both Henderson and Hicks but getting either one would be outstanding. I have been out of the SE for a while but does the state of Georgia still sell a UF plate? It seems like my brother sent me that story at one time.

  4. Denver – I believe they do. I also think Tennessee and Alabama do as well. Not positive on Alabama.

  5. SC Gator says:

North Carolina sells a UF plate as well but not South Carolina.

Would be awesome to see us snag Prater now that Carrol is officially on his way to the seahawks.

  6. qnt82 says:

Adam, with the current returning players, departures, early enrollments, and commitments coming in, what is your prediction for our starting secondary lineup?

  7. qnt:

I’m not counting Major Wright or Ahmad Black as departures, so…

    CB: Janoris Jenkins
S: Major Wright or Ahmad Black
    S: Will Hill
    CB: Adrian Bushell

If both Wright and Black leave, you would likely have Dee Finley in there.

  8. 305gator says:

Where would Dorian Munroe be in the depth chart if he got the medical redshirt?

I know he was ahead of Ahmad Black before his injuries.

  9. Brittany says:

Denver- yes they(Georgia) do, last time I checked anyways.

  10. BobG says:

Virginia has a UF plate and it must be pretty popular. I had to go through several options before I found one that worked. VAG8RS
