The Florida Gators are slowly inching their way back up the 2017 team recruiting rankings after adding their third verbal commitment in the last two days as three-star defensive back Donovan Stiner (Bellaire, TX) flipped his pledge from Houston on Sunday.
“I would like to thank the University of Houston for a great opportunity, but after further consideration I have decided to commit to the University of Florida #GoGators #DBU” Stiner wrote on Twitter.
Stiner (6-foot-2, 185 pounds) did not even get offered by Florida until Thursday, a day before his official visit. That was obviously enough to get him to change his mind and flip to the Gators just three days before National Signing Day.
With Stiner now in the fold, Florida has 17 commitments for 2017 but only eight four-star pledges. Stiner is the fourth defensive back in that group and projects as a safety.
Florida now possesses the 20th ranked class in the country after moving from 31st to 22nd on Saturday.
