Florida Gators head basketball coach Mike White is off to a hot start recruiting the 2017 cycle, earning a verbal commitment late Monday from four-star guard/forward DeAundrae Ballard (Atlanta, GA).

A consensus four-star prospect, Ballard (6-foot-6, 180 pounds) is ranked as the No. 58 overall player in the 247Sports Composite and is the second top-60 2017 player to commit to the Gators. He joins four-star G Shai Alexander (Chattanooga, TN), the 49th-ranked player in the nation, in Florida’s class.

Ballard’s commitment, first reported by HoopsSeen.com and confirmed by Rivals, comes as the Gators are still looking to fill out their roster for the 2016-17 season.

Florida has a pair of Oldsmar Christian School teammates in four-star G Eric Hester (No. 122) and three-star F Dontay Bassett (No. 271) committed for 2016. UF is looking to add at least one transfer ahead of next season to enhance what some believe is an underwhelming incoming class.

According to HoopsSeen.com, which spoke with Ballard’s high school coach, White and the Gators put a full-court press on the prospect, involving the entire Florida coaching staff in his commitment.

Ballard averaged 23.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.4 steals during his junior season at Southwest Atlanta Christian High School.
