While it has been a disappointing season for Florida Gators baseball on the diamond, the continued dominance of junior Jac Caglianone remains a sight to see. The star first baseman / left-handed pitcher, a consensus top-three pick in the forthcoming 2024 MLB Draft, added to his list of incredible accomplishments Friday night.
Caglianone jacked a home run in his ninth straight collegiate game, powering a ball deep to right field in the top of the sixth inning. That ties an NCAA record for consecutive games with a HR and sets Caglianone up to potentially take the mark for himself Saturday when Florida again faces the No. 13 Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville, Tennessee.
Caglianone has largely been a one-man wrecking crew for the Gators, which lost 5-2 on Friday and have dropped seven of the last nine games in which he has homered.
Florida is 19-19 (7-10 SEC) on the season, headed for its worst campaign since 2013 as it tries to avoid becoming the third UF team to finish .500 or worse since 1990.
Caglianone is batting .403 with a 1.356 OPS on the season. He has 23 homers, 46 RBI and 21 walks to just 14 strikeouts.
