It’s all in the family for Florida Gators basketball as the program added a familiar last name to its roster with its latest acquisition out of the transfer portal. Ohio guard AJ Brown (Orlando, FL), the brother of Gators upcoming sophomore G Isaiah Brown, committed to join his sibling in the Orange & Blue on Wednesday.

The elder Brown, who will be entering his senior campaign rated as a four-star transfer by 247Sports, started 29 games for the Bobcats last season averaging 13.2 points on 47% shooting hitting 39% of his attempts from beyond the arc and 82% from the free-throw line.

As a two-guard, he joins Florida as a necessary replacement for Denzel Aberdeen, who departed through the portal and decided to play his fourth season at rival Kentucky.

The younger Brown, who was rated as a four-star prospect in the Class of 2024, saw action 19 times at Florida in his freshman season but only averaged 1.9 points in 3.7 minutes per game as a deep bench reserve. His role is expected to increase substantially following the departures of Aberdeen, Walter Clayton Jr., Will Richard and Alijah Martin — the top four guards on the roster that led the Gators to the program’s first national championship in 18 years.

AJ Brown was originally expected to announce his commitment Tuesday on the back end of an official visit to the University of Florida but chose to wait an additional two days. He also had interest from the likes of LSU, Missouri and Xavier.

Four-star transfer point guard Xaivian Lee (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) committed to Florida out of Princeton last week. He was considered one of the best backcourt players in the portal.
