Making its first significant splash following the closure of the second transfer portal window, the Florida Gators on Tuesday landed a major name at a position of need. Safety RJ Moten, formerly of the Michigan Wolverines, has decided to join the Gators after spending the last few days in Gainesville, Florida.

Florida earned Moten’s services over other major programs like LSU and Texas A&M. The former four-star prospect in the Class of 2020 has yet to be rerated as a transfer player.

Moten, the son of former Gators linebacker Ron Moten, started 15 of the 29 games he played for the Wolverines with 10 starts in his junior campaign. He compiled 65 tackles (48 solo), two interceptions and six pass defenses over the last two seasons in which he saw nearly all of his playing time.

Florida still has a handful of open scholarships as it looks to build out its roster ahead of the 2023 season. Head coach Billy Napier has indicated that the team will add another quarterback, though there has not been much traction on which player he expects to bring on board despite a couple notable names entering the transfer portal prior to Monday’s deadline.
