Florida Gators junior cornerback Brian Edwards was arrested Monday night and is being held in Alachua County Jail on a first-degree misdemeanor battery charge stemming from a domestic incident. He was booked off-campus by the Gainesville Police Department.

Edwards was involved in an argument with a woman he was dating for two years when he allegedly stopped her from leaving an apartment by grabbing her by the neck, according to the GPD’s arrest report. “Marks on her neck and a scratch on her shoulder” were observed by the responding officers. There was a witness to the incident who stopped it and called 911.

Nick de La Torre of Gator Country first reported the arrest.

A reserve cornerback for the Gators, Edwards has seen action in 18 games over two seasons. The former three-star prospect from Hollywood, Florida, was expected to remain in a reserve role, though his status with the team is now clearly up in the air.

This is the second time in as many weeks that it has been revealed that a Florida football player has been accused of wrongdoing involving a woman. It was uncovered last week that freshman quarterback Jalon Jones was accused of sexual battery of two women back in early April. Though that incident was reported to police, neither victim decided to press charges. Jones entered the NCAA transfer portal before the incident became public.
