A significant hole in the Florida Gators basketball roster was filled Friday as the program announced the redshirt senior Kyle Lofton has decided to transfer into the program. Lofton, a three-time All-Atlantic 10 floor general from St. Bonaventure, has one year of eligibility remaining.

Lofton (6-foot-3, 185 pounds), the 31st-ranked player in 247Sports’ transfer portal, has averaged nearly 14 points, six assists, three rebounds and a steal-and-a-half per game across the last three seasons while hitting about 41% of his shots and 28% of his 3-point attempts. Though not a high-percentage shooter, he drains from an 82% clip at the line and will likely get more opportunities at free throws in head coach Todd Golden’s offense.

Perhaps best of all for a Gators team lacking any depth at the point guard position, Lofton has played more than 38 minutes per game across his entire career for the Bonnies. Florida badly need him on the court in that role.

“We are excited to bring Kyle into our program here at Florida,” Golden said in a statement released by the team. “Kyle has experienced a lot of success both from a team and individual standpoint during his time at St. Bonaventure. He’s a proven winner and leader. He makes others around him better and cares only about one thing: winning.”

Lofton is the fourth transfer joining the Gators this offseason along with LSU forward Alex Fudge (No. 49), Belmont guard Will Richard (No. 53) and VMI G Trey Bonham. Golden has also done a fantastic job rerecruiting the current roster as he notably retained redshirt senior F Colin Castleton, sophomore G Kowacie Reeves and redshirt senior G Myreon Jones, among others already on the team.
