The Florida Gators landed a key piece for their Class of 2022 on Thursday when four-star cornerback Julian Humphrey (Houston, TX) committed to join the program ahead of next season. He was one of Florida’s top targets at the position and is now the Gators’ highest-rated commitment in the cycle.
Humphrey (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) is listed as the No. 135 player in the nation and No. 16 cornerback, according to the 247Sports Composite. He committed to Florida primarily over Penn State, making his decision about six weeks after receiving an official scholarship offer from the Gators. An official visit is planned for June 11, though he also plans to take one at PSU the following week.
“I’m Chillin. #Committed” Humphrey announced on Twitter with a strange video that included a Texas A&M logo but Florida graphic.
Humphrey is the second Lone Star State player to commit to the Gators, joining four-star quarterback Nick Evers (Flower Mound, TX). He was primarily recruited by head coach Dan Mullen and CBs coach Jules Montinar.
Florida’s class moved up three spots to 24th nationally following Humphrey’s commitment as the Gators have gotten a slow start to adding 2022 commitments. UF has just six verbal pledges, but it is not alone starting slow as programs like Clemson, Michigan, Oregon and USC are all listed in the 20s of the 247Sports Composite team rankings at this time. Still, Florida is competing with teams like Georgia (12 commitments, No. 1) and LSU (13 commitments, No. 3), among others, and has a lot of ground to make up.
