The last time safety Deontai Williams (Jacksonville, FL) committed to the Florida Gators, well, let’s just say a lot has changed since Jan. 9 2014. Now a junior college transfer candidate in 2018, Williams is back where he started and planning to play for the Gators next season.

A former three-star prospect, Williams (6-foot, 175 pounds) flipped from Florida to Georgia and then, due to academics, wound up signing a National Letter of Intent with Ohio on National Signing Day in 2015. He never enrolled there either and currently plays for Jones County Junior College.

Williams, though he does not have a new star rating just yet, has been heavily pursued as a JUCO transfer with Alabama and LSU both in the mix for his commitment. This despite Williams missing most of the 2016 season with an ACL injury that kept him out of action. He is expected to return healthy in 2017 and should be two years removed from the injury by the time he joins UF.

The Gators’ 2018 recruiting class presently ranks 29th nationally, sixth in the SEC and behind both of their in-state rivals. Williams is the ninth member of that class, which includes just three prospects that possess a four-star ranking.
