Just days after decommitting from an SEC foe, 2021 defensive back Dakota Mitchell (Winter Park, FL) has found a new home with the Florida Gators. Mitchell verbally committed to Florida on Thursday, announcing he’s “staying home” and “1000% Committed to the swamp.”
A three-star prospect, Mitchell (6-foot, 184 pounds) had only been committed to LSU for three months. He boasted a significant list of offers and previously named Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Miami as the other four schools in his top six.
Mitchell will likely end up playing in nickel or star for the Gators, and safeties coach Ron English can be credited for his recruitment and eventual commitment.
Recruiting has been slow for Florida over the last three weeks, though the Gators hold the eighth-ranked class in the 247Sports Composite team rankings, No. 2 in the SEC. UF has 16 commitments as part of its 2021 class.
