Florida Gators basketball kicked off its Class of 2023 on Wednesday with a prospect coming from a bit off the beaten path. Three-star power forward Thomas Haugh (Pennsburg, PA) decided to step into the orange-and-blue fold by committing to the program and head coach Todd Golden.

“Dreams to reality! 110% committed to the University of Florida,” Haugh tweeted.

Originally a member of the Class of 2022, Haugh (6-foot-9, 200 pounds) did not have any offers from power conferences and made a conscious decision to return to Perkiomen School, a preparatory institution, for a post-graduate season in hopes of boosting his recruiting stock. That move worked as he landed offers from Florida, Illinois and Maryland, among others, this spring.

Described as a “late-blooming” recruit with a “high ceiling” by 247Sports’ director of recruiting Adam Finklestein, Haugh grew two inches while retaining his athleticism and versatility to play multiple positions, all of which led to his new set of offers.

Haugh grew up a Gators fan and called Florida his “dream school,” so his commitment Wednesday came as the culmination of a lot of hard work and dedication.

Golden continues to rebuild the Gators roster as he enters his first season with the program. After rerecruiting a number of Florida’s top players, Golden has added multiple incoming transfers this offseason while also finding talented prospects to fill the Class of 2022 that disappeared following the departure of former head coach Mike White.

Haugh is just the first piece of what should be a significant 2023 class.
