Still creeping their way up the rankings after a slow start to the recruiting cycle, the Florida Gators on Thursday added their latest commitment. Four-star defensive back CJ Hester (Cocoa, FL) chose to continue his career a few hours North just over a month after officially visiting Florida.
Hester (6-foot-1, 185 pounds), ranked No. 233 nationally in the 247Sports Composite, chose the Gators after taking similar visits to Auburn, Georgia, Iowa, Syracuse and UCLA over the last six weeks. He has played cornerback and safety for Cocoa High School, most recently shifting to the latter position.
Just 24 hours earlier, four-star defensive lineman Kendall Guervil (Fort Myers, FL) committed to Florida. The highest-ranked player of this trio, Guervil (6-foot-5, 315 pounds) is considered the No. 77 player in the nation by 247Sports (No. 146 in the composite). He chose UF over Georgia and Texas after taking four official visits, including to Florida State.
Last week, four-star offensive lineman Desmond Green (St. Stephen, SC) committed to the Gators following a set of official visits to UGA, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. Green (6-foot-5, 354 pounds) became the lowest-rated Gators pledge, per 247Sports, though that is often the case with interior players at his position as potential is difficult to grade.
With 16 commitments now in tow, Florida moved up a handful of spots to No. 13 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings. Ten of the 12 programs above the Gators hold at least 19 pledges at this juncture.
