Florida Gators fans waiting with baited breath for their team to make a move in the 2018 recruiting cycle may have seen the beginning of that on Tuesday when four-star offensive lineman Curtis Dunlap Jr. (Bradenton, FL) committed to the program.
Dunlap (6-foot-4, 368 pounds), the 202nd ranked player in the 247Sports Composite and one of the top 10 guards in the nation, is a native of Jacksonville who is presently at IMG Academy. The Gators had been interested in him for quite some time but recently took a more aggressive stance and came away with a pledge.
“I am proud to announce my commitment to the University of Florida. GO GATORS!” Dunlap wrote via Twitter, confirming that he was new UF offensive line coach Brad Davis‘ first pledge.

If Florida has its way, Dunlap will be the first of a handful of commitments to come over the next few days as the program hosts its Friday Night Lights summer camp in Gainesville. Some of the nation’s top players will be in attendance, and the Gators have a long way to go with plenty of space open in their recruiting class.
Dunlap is just the third 2018 commitment with a four-star rating in Florida’s class. He’s the second-highest ranked recruit and the first offensive lineman UF has on board. The Gators have just eight overall commitments and now rank No. 38 in the nation (up from No. 61) and eighth in the SEC (up from 13th) following the addition of Dunlap.
