Florida football recruiting: Key 2021 QB Carlos Del Rio commits to Gators
Football

After impressing the program at its annual Friday Night Lights junior showcase camp on in Gainesville, Florida, three-star 2021 quarterback Carlos Del Rio (Powder Springs, GA) took advantage of scholarship offer and committed to the Florida Gators. He is the lone addition Florida has made from the event thus far.

Del Rio (6-foot-3, 201 pounds), who recently visited Oklahoma and Arkansas, is currently listed as a three-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite, but it is only a matter of time before he is bumped into the four-star category. (247Sports lists him as the 248th prospect in the country as a four-star on its own rankings.)

He is considered more of a pro-style signal caller, but so were a number of other quarterbacks head coach Dan Mullen has coached throughout his career. Quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson, Del Rio’s primary recruiter, had a heavy hand in his commitment.

The Gators now have three players committed for 2021 following a string of class defections this offseason. Still, Florida’s class is ranked sixth nationally with Del Rio slotting in between four-star defensive end Tyreak Sapp and three-star offensive tackle George Jackson.

With four-star Anthony Richardson (Gainesville, FL) committed for 2020 and redshirt freshman Emory Jones waiting in the wings behind redshirt junior Feleipe Franks, the Gators suddenly have a stacked group at the position should Richardson and Del Rio both make it into UF. Previously enrolled this offseason was freshman Jalon Jones, who has since transferred following sexual battery accusations.

There is no relation between Del Rio and former Florida QB Luke Del Rio.
