The Florida Gators got some big news Thursday — literally — when three-star defensive tackle Desmond Watson (Seffner, FL) committed to the program, adding another massive body to the program’s growing Class of 2021. Though he was initially planning to commit next month, Watson decided not to waste any time in making his decision known.
Watson (6-foot-5, 350 pounds) committed to Florida over Texas A&M, choosing to stay at home as a local product from Armwood High School. He made his decision via a social media video. A true interior prospect, he is the fourth defensive lineman in the Gators’ class this cycle.
Despite adding three commitments in July (a net gain of two after losing the second-highest rated player in its class), Florida continues trickling down the 247Sports Composite team rankings. It is now ranked 11th nationally after recently being jumped by in-state rival Miami. The Gators are one of only four teams in the top 11 without a five-star commitment.
UF now has 21 underclassmen commits (10 four-stars, 11 three-stars) as part of its Class of 2021, which was ranked as high as seventh nationally this summer. Florida is also counting a pair of former commitments now in junior college — linebacker Diwun Black and guard Deyavie Hammond — as part of its class, giving the Gators 23 overall for this cycle. Black is ranked as the No. 1 overall JUCO player in the nation, per 247Sports.
