With the 2021-22 season fast approaching and an open scholarship remaining, Florida Gators basketball filled its remaining vacancy Monday when guard Elijah Kennedy (Virginia Beach, VA) signed with the program. He will enroll this fall and be eligible to play for Florida this season.

Kennedy, a 6-foot-4 unrated prospect, was recruited by new assistant coach Akeem Miskdeen. He did not have a committable offer from any Power Five team until the Gators reached out. Previously, he was planning to play for Combine Academy, a boarding school and sports performance center.

The 2021 Virginia High School Coaches Association Class 5 Player of the Year, Kennedy averaged 22 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.6 per game, shooting nearly 60% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc, according to The Virginian-Pilot.

He is only the second true freshman joining Florida this season as he will be stepping in alongside four-star G Kowacie Reeves. The Gators’ roster has been in flux all offseason with NBA Draft departures and transfers, but they also brought in four transfers of their own along with two new assistant coaches.
