The Florida Gators men’s basketball bench will look a bit different at the start of the 2023-24 season as head coach Todd Golden has made some additions to his staff. One of those additions is an exceedingly familiar face who will undoubtedly be recognized by long-time Florida fans.

Two-time national championship point guard Taurean Green has been promoted to Golden’s coaching staff after previously serving in a support role, a source with knowledge of the promotion confirmed to OnlyGators.com. Green rejoined the Gators in Year 1 under Golden as director of player development but will now be able to serve as an on-court assistant in Year 2 taking the fifth spot on the bench. The former Florida star had served in a similar development role for the Chicago Bulls player former Gators head coach Billy Donovan prior to returning to UF.

Moving into the fourth spot on Golden’s on-court staff is former Washington State assistant John Andrzejek, according to multiple reports. Renowned for his analytical mind, Andrzejek spent the last three seasons with the Cougars under Kyle Smith, who was Golden’s mentor at both Columbia and San Francisco. Andrzejek previously served as director of basketball operations for the Dons but also spent time as an assistant at Johns Hopkins (2017-18) and Dartmouth (2018-19) before joining Wazzu.

A recent NCAA rule change allowed college basketball teams to expand their benches by two additional on-court assistants if they so chose. This gives programs additional flexibility when it comes to which staff members are allowed to run practices and recruit on campus.

While some teams, like Florida, are taking advantage of this rule change, others have decided to remain with three assistants or only add one additional coach.

Carlin Hartman and Korey McCray return as associate head coaches — Golden’s top two lieutenants — with Kevin Hovde rounding out the top three spots on the staff.
