With Week 1 officially underway in the 2021 college football season, the Florida Gators took the opportunity to add one additional name to their roster. Tyrone Truesdell, a former starting defensive lineman for Auburn, has joined Florida ahead of the season. UF added Turesdell to its roster Monday.

Truesdell, a former three-star prospect in the Class of 2017, walks into the Gators program as a fifth-year senior graduate transfer who took advantage of the NCAA’s additional year of eligibility granted to players last season amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He started 19 games at defensive tackle over 44 appearances for the Tigers, totaling 67 tackles (nine for loss) and three sacks in his career.

Truesdell was expected to again start inside for Auburn; however, he left the team in early August and chose not to return. He is the third transfer defensive lineman to join the program ahead of the season.

Redshirt seniors Daquan Newkirk (30 games as Truesdell’s teammate at Auburn) and Antonio Valentino (40 games played at Penn State) were both added to Florida’s roster this offseason. Newkirk signed with the program in February.

All three will be competing for time as backups alongside sophomore breakout candidate Gervon Dexter, sophomore Jalen Lee, redshirt freshman Lamar Goods and freshman Desmond Watson, among others.
