Gators fall again in third USA Today, AP Top 25

For the second straight week, the Florida Gators have won a game by more than 20 points yet still fallen in the latest USA Today and Associated Press Top 25 polls. Just one day after defeating the South Florida Bulls 38-14 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, FL, the Gators fell one and two spots in the respective polls.

Ranked No. 3 in the USA Today Coaches’ poll going into the season, Florida was moved down to No. 6 last week, losing 115 points in the process. Voters were obviously not impressed with their performance once again, dropping the Gators another spot to No. 7 while taking away 22 more points.

The AP voters had Florida ranked No. 4 in their preseason poll, but knocked them down four spots last week, taking away 172 points from their total. The Gators lost more 201 more points this week, falling to No. 10.

It’ll be OK Gator Nation…if we win, this stuff takes care of itself. I’m not convinced this team is a top 10 team yet either. Time always tells.

  2. Gator says:

I am confused by what it says under Associated Press. Why does it list “Last Week” twice?

    Edit, Edit, Edit.

You can never edit too much.

  3. John Shanks says:

I would have preferred we were ranked here from the beginning. Just win in Knoxville, even by one and I’m satisfied.

  4. Gatorbuc15 says:

AP poll means absolutely nothing. Don’t understand why it’s still around.

Gatorbuc15 – to give people something to write about.

I have no idea where we should be ranked. Thankful, it doesn’t really matter. Keep winning games and the polls will sort themselves accordingly in the end.

Think thats about right. Watching us during the first half I see a 4-5 loss season. If we play like we did during the second half, then we should only lose 1-2 this year. Just need to temper expectations this year.

  7. Gatorgrad79 says:

I agree that we would be verrrrry lucky to get to Dec 4 with only one loss. Hopefully it is not to an SEC east team, or we may not play for the SEC championship, then it’s back to the Outback Bowl or Cap One Bowl 🙁
Ranked between 10 and 15 pre-season would have been about right, but so far we ahven’t been impressive enough to stay there…

probably less the gators ‘dropping’ in the polls and more other teams moving up. depends on how you look at it. some teams are playing well and florida just isn’t showing any reason to move up yet. keep winning and it’ll all come out fine.

Once again, I don’t think I’ve ever seen this before. Never have I seen a team drop this much after a win; let alone on two consecutive weeks. I know our offense has been error prone, especially in the opener, but our defense looks as good as anybody’s and we were starting to click offensively in the second half. I still think 9-3 is the worst case scenario.

  10. Escambia94 says:

@scooterp: I have seen this happen to other teams. We as the Gator Nation probably have never seen our own team drop in the polls after a win, because we have either not been ranked when we are at this playing level, or the rest of the NCAA has sucked as bad as us at this same week of the season. I won’t say we suck, but compared to the other 112 Div-IA teams, we are not improving fast enough. I agree that 9-3 is worst case. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year, but many of us (including me) got over-excited and assumed the drop-off would be less than it is. I think our rating is about right, but that Boise State should fall more. It’s up to the Gators to prove we belong at this ranking or higher. Note that in 2006, a Natl Champ year, we started at 8, climbed to 3, fell to 8 “where we belonged”, and worked back up to #1.

Hey, we should have been in this area to start off with. We looked lost as a goose the first six quarters so maybe we have found something that works. I see us winning the next two games like this as they are no better than USF. Now Alabama at Alabama should be a ding, but hopefully we show up better than Penn State does. That should be our yearly West SEC loss.
Then we should do pretty well the rest of the season, unless of course, like Pat Dolley says, “we keep trying to scratch that itch on our phantom limb”.

  12. scooterp says:

Escambia, if you know, please tell us. I’ve seen an unimpressive win cost a team a spot or two in the polls, but not 6 places over two weeks and the games were’nt even close. Our offense was awful for for 6 quarters and we still beat the crap out of them.

  13. Gatorbuc15 says:

Thanks SC_Gator for that littlte shot. Not sure what the hell that was for, but you can kiss my a$$ buddy. OK.
