With the Southeastern Conference season set to kick off in just over a week on Sept. 26, the league on Thursday officially announced the awards it normally hands out at media days over the summer. Eight Florida Gators were named to the 2020 Preseason All-SEC Teams with two receiving particularly unique honors from the league’s coaches.

Redshirt senior Kyle Trask and junior Kyle Pitts were both named to the Preseason All-SEC first team. Trask is the first Florida quarterback to receive that honor since Tim Tebow in 2009, while Pitts is the first tight end to pick up that nod since Cornelius Ingram in 2008.

Among the others awarded were redshirt junior linebacker Ventrell Miller and defensive backs sophomore Kaiir Elam and redshirt junior Marco Wilson, all of whom earned second-team honors. Redshirt junior defensive lineman Zachary Carter, junior kicker Evan McPherson and senior all-purpose player Kadarius Toney were placed on the third team.

Florida was tied for third in the SEC with its eight selections alongside LSU and Texas A&M. Alabama led the conference with 11 picks, while Georgia had 10 players represented on the team.

UF will begin the 2020 season playing at Ole Miss on Sept. 26. The game will kick off at noon ET.
