College football rankings: Florida Gators knocked down in AP Top 25 after pitiful loss to Missouri
Football

It was hardly a surprise when the Florida Gators were left off preseason college football rankings lists, and after an absolute drubbing of what was previously the No. 4 team in the nation last week, it was hardly a surprise that the Gators soared up the college football rankings. Similarly unsurprising? Florida immediately losing a road game in which it was favored, which it did in disastrous fashion Saturday, falling 45-17 to Missouri.

While the Gators’ 4-1 start is around what was expected in Year 1 under head coach Jon Sumrall, it has not come as expected. What started out as the second-best offense in program history under coordinator Buster Faulkner, junior quarterback Aaron Philo and junior running back Jadan Baugh was dealt a massive blow as Florida was outschemed and outplayed by a Missouri team that dominated the line of scrimmage.

The question now is whether the Gators will be able to bounce back at home against South Carolina before facing No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Georgia with only an off week between.

Florida dropped eight spots to No. 16 in the AP Top 25 and seven spots to No. 15 in the Coaches Poll after being the unanimous No. 8 team in the nation last week.

After Week 5, the Gators are one of 10 SEC teams in the rankings, with five of those teams on the schedule, including four still to play, among them the top two teams in the nation.
