It was a big day in The Swamp for the No. 10 Florida Gators (6-0, 3-0 SEC), which saw their defense dominate the No. 7 Auburn Tigers (5-1, 2-1 SEC) en route to a 24-13 victory on homecoming at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Florida. Though each team committed four turnovers on the day, it was the Gators’ three interceptions of Tigers freshman quarterback Bo Nix — including one in the end zone — that made the biggest difference in the game.

Florida led Auburn 17-13 at halftime and through three quarters with the teams locked in a defensive battle. It was not until senior running back Lamical Perine erupted with a late 88-yard touchdown — the longest for the Gators since Emmitt Smith’s 96-yard trot against Mississippi State in 1988 — that the hosts felt comfortable. Perine’s score ended up as the only second-half points in the game, and it was just enough to send Florida to a comfortable win.

The Gators improved to 5-1 under head coach Dan Mullen against ranked opponents and are now 8-3 against top 10 teams in the last 11 such games. Florida has also started 6-0 for the first time since 2006 and has now won 10 straight games dating back to last season.

Perine’s late run and the victory sent Gator Nation into hysterics on Twitter as more than 30 former Gators were thrilled to share their jubilation about the win. Check out what they had to say below!
