With the Florida Gators looking to add talent across both sides of the ball in the Class of 2022, the program received a significant verbal commitment Wednesday when four-star defensive lineman Jamari Lyons (Melbourne, FL) decided to continue his playing career in the orange and blue. He is projected as a Power Five starter who can play across the entire defensive front.

“Florida is my dream school. I’ve always dreamed of going there. I’ve been watching Florida every Saturday since I was little with my grandpa,” Lyons said at his commitment ceremony.

Lyons (6-foot-4, 295 pounds) committed to Florida over South Carolina, though Arkansas, Arizona State and Indiana were previously finalists. He’s rated as the No. 352 overall player in the 247Sports Composite and No. 235 overall on 247Sports’ own rankings.

“It’s home. I’m home. … I have a great relationship with the coaches: Coach [David] Turner, Coach [Greg] Knox, Coach [Dan] Mullen. … They’ve been talking to me ever since freshman year,” he added.

Lyons is now the Gators’ second-highest rated defensive prospect behind four-star linebacker Shemar James (Mobile, AL) and the second defensive lineman joining the program as three-star Francois Nolton (Miami, FL) committed back in February.

His commitment boosts Florida two spots up to No. 14 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings. The Gators are fifth in the SEC and also behind rival Florida State (No. 10).
