Coming off a predictably dominant home win over Vanderbilt, the Florida Gators held steady in the AP Top 25 and inched up slightly in the newest Coaches Poll released Sunday following Week 6 of the season. Florida remains the No. 20 team in the AP Top 25 and rose one spot to No. 17 in the Coaches Poll.
With 40 ranked teams now having lost through the first six weeks of the season, we saw another shake-up of the rankings at the top. However, without a significant number of upsets outside of top-ranked Alabama falling at Texas A&M, the top 25 teams remained largely intact.
The Gators remain the highest-ranked two-loss team in the Coaches Poll but are second in that distinction to Arkansas in the AP Top 25. This despite the Razorbacks giving up 52 points to Ole Miss and being blown out 37-0 by Georgia in consecutive weeks.
Alabama, the defending national champions, fell from its perch on top with Georgia replacing it while receiving the near-unanimous sum of first-place votes from AP pollsters and coaches. Iowa, Cincinnati, Oklahoma and Alabama round out the first five spots in the AP Top 25.
