Florida Gators basketball added its second commitment under new head coach Mike White as three-star power forward Dontay Bassett (Oldsmar, FL) pledged to join the program ahead of the 2016 season.

“I’m proud to say I’m committed to the University of Florida,” he wrote on his Twitter account early Monday night.

Bassett (6-foot-9, 210 pounds) joins his teammate at Oldsmar Christian High School, four-star guard Eric Hester (Oldsmar, FL), as the second member of the Gators’ 2016 recruiting class. Though not as highly rated as Hester (6-foot-3, 175 pounds), Bassett is praised for his energy and athleticism and could be a solid developmental project for Florida.

Dealing with a knee injury this offseason, Bassett was unable to play this summer but spent the time developing his mid-range jumper as a compliment to his innate rebounding ability. He chose Florida over offers from Colorado, Arkansas and Oregon State, among others.

Hester and Bassett are the only members of the Gators’ 2016 class at this time.
