Former Louisville defensive lineman Caleb Banks (Southfield, MI) announced Sunday his intention join the Florida Gators ahead of the 2023 season. A redshirt freshman playing his first year of college football, he will transfer to Florida with three years of eligibility remaining.
Banks, a three-star prospect in the Class of 2021, had a sack in his lone tackle in six games this season along with a forced fumble. He has added nearly 50 pounds to his 6-foot-7 frame, checking in at 300 pounds this season.
Banks made his decision coming off a visit to UF this weekend.
Though he is not ranked among the top transfers either overall or at his position by 247Sports, he is seen as a high-upside project. Banks will likely serve a versatile depth role for the Gators in 2023 with his level of development and overall play determining whether additional opportunities come his way in the future.
With the early signing period still 10 days away, Banks is the first player who will take one of the nearly two dozen open scholarships that have been created at Florida amid NFL Draft declarations, transfer portal entries and dismissals. The Gators are expected to see significant roster churn this offseason as head coach Billy Napier continues building the depth chart to his liking.
